About Us
Story Cafe -- Story Cafe harnesses the narrative smarts of gamers and virtual world inhabitants to create machines that can serve as intelligent partners in the creative practice of narrating our lives. It's a site in Second Life (with interfaces to the "regular Web" available) where players construct stories through avatar actions and conversation. In one game housed in the cafe, players construct a story by choosing images from communal libraries, or upload their own graphics. In another game, players are presented with a set of character traits and take turns building on a story guided by the system. The stories generated are stored as part of a growing knowledge-base that can be mined to generate narratives for recreational and educational games to drive avatar actions and conversation, and for a variety of human-computer interactions.
